Children and Young People's Therapy/Coaching

I offer therapy/coaching for children and young people with neurodiversity aged 9 - 25 years.  Therapy offers children and young people a space to talk about their thoughts and feelings in a safe environment.

Having worked at teens in crisis and completed their accredited Children and Young People’s course, I am very passionate about working with children.  Adolescents face many physical and biological challenges and counselling can help support them through these difficult years.  By being aware of the developmental stages and theories, I am able to adapt my style and language to work with different age groups.  I use different resources and make sessions with children and young people, fun and very interactive.  Often teenagers find it difficult to connect with their feelings and emotions and by working creatively together we can make this process easier and more enjoyable.

Adolescents are currently experiencing particularly high levels of anxiety and depression.  Self-harm and suicide has increased and often teenagers find it difficult to talk to parents or family members about what they are thinking and feeling.  Talking to someone outside of the family can help your child build trust, feel heard and feel safe whilst learning to gain coping strategies and make sense of the world they live in.   Which can take away the feeling of being alone or isolated.

After assessing the health and wellbeing of a teenage client, I can help them with self care and common problems such as sleeping patterns, as well as feelings of anger, depression, anxiety and low self esteem.

It is a particularly difficult time for them developing from a child to an adult and therapy can really help this transition be much smoother.

More recently, I have begun to focus on working with neurodiverse children, particularly ADHD and Autistic.  Helping them to understand why their brains are wired differently and how to navigate school.  Being in an environment where they are measured by sanctions can be extremely challenging for an ADHD brain.  I can assist you to work with school and ensure that your son/daughter has an EHCP and coping mechanisms in place.  I will also work with them to help them manage anxiety.  Often girls mask ADHD with perfectionism and boys with anger.  We can work together to help them connect with their true nature and find a better sense of self and their identity.

As regular attendance is a crucial part of the therapy/coaching process, therapy can continue throughout the school holidays.  Therapy will be reviewed regularly to make sure I am meeting the needs of the child or young person.  Sometimes they may need additional support if they are transitioning.
